BROADSIDES
& RETROSPECTIVES
A 19 song collection of the “Best of Vic Sadot’s
Crazy Planet & Planète Folle Bands” plus 6
new songs and 2 unreleased previous recordings.
Five
of the songs are poems by Jean-Henri Sadot, father of Vic &
Rob Sadot, set to music. Three of those who rendered two JHS
poems to music are guest singers and musicians on the CD. Vic
plays back-up with other American musicians while Frenchmen
Lionel Bernard & Jérôme Panier present The
Statue of Liberty. Dean A. Banks delivers a beautiful rendition
of A Little Girl’s Bedtime. Two songs were recorded long
ago and never released: Broadside Balladeer and Respect For
the Road. This CD is not traditional Cajun/Zydeco like the 1997
Comin’ Home CD. This is all original folk, rock, and blues,
and one reggae: Need To Know… and one Spanish song: Recuerdo
de los Pireneos. Noteworthy new topical songs that we hope you
will request on your favorite radio stations: Mad Cowboy Disease
and Are You A Citizen. In Newark we suggest WVUD
(University of Delaware, 91.3 FM) Their request line is 302.831.2701.
VIC
SADOT SOLO- Acoustic Folk Rock Solo Act
An
Intimate Concert with Singer/Songwriter Vic Sadot
Vic Sadot was born in Ridley Park, PA in 1947, and he grew up
in Newark, DE. He graduated from the University of Delaware
in 1969 with a BA in Political Science. That’s when Vic
bought a guitar and moved to Washington, DC. He began writing
topical songs on the Watergate scandal and got some radio airplay
on a nationally syndicated show called “In the Public
Interest”. Since the 1970’s, Vic has been a prolific
singer/songwriter in the Philadelphia to Baltimore/Washington,
DC area. He is probably best known these days as the singer
and 10 button accordion player in his Cajun/Zydeco band known
as “Planète Folle” (Crazy Planet in French).
These days Vic has looked back into his musical roots and organized
an intimate and engaging solo/duo act that could gain him more
recognition as a singer/songwriter.
Original songs like “The Harbor of Love” and “Comin’
Thru” are truly romantic songs that have not been part
of his band repertoires. Many of these original songs came out
of the influence of the “60’s folk revival”
led by such luminaries as Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Tom Paxton,
and Vic’s favorite of them all, Phil Ochs. Vic had the
honor of meeting and interviewing Phil for WGTB radio of Georgetown
University in Washington, DC in 1973. You will find several
of the songs of this era in Vic’s new solo/duo show. They
are the ones that have stood the test of time, such as Phil’s
hauntingly beautiful “Changes”. New songs written
just days before a show are often thrown into Vic’s mix
as well.
Another rich source of songs for Vic Sadot has been the poems
by his father Jean-Henri, his brother Joe Sadot, and George
Reuter, a family friend. Vic has put music to “White Clay
Creek”, “Autumn’s Coming Down”, and
“The Fog Watch on Limestone Road”. There is a rich
harvest of roots material from these sources. In keeping with
this tradition, Vic wrote a poetic song tribute to his mother
and the area where she grew up. It is called “The Rugged
Hills of Landenberg”. These songs are part of a 16 song
CD collection of local folk songs under the title of Songs of
the Seasons. WVUD has a copy in it’s library if you should
like to request a song by calling the DJ at 302-831-2701.
Songs have been gleaned and mixed in from the various episodes
of Vic’s music career. In the early 70’s, under
the mythical name of “C.P. Swampgrass”, Vic sang
and played acoustic guitar with his younger brother Joe on the
banjo and their buddy Craig Maurer on fiddle. It was Craig who
presented the now legendary “Frog Jog” to Vic and
asked him to be a “wordsmith” for his tune. Joe
died suddenly and unexpectedly in 1978 of a brain aneurysm.
It was a crushing event and we only have the gems of his music
to carry us on…but they are gems and they deserve to be
heard, not buried with the songwriter. You will hear Vic keeping
some of his favorite songs by Joe Sadot alive and engaging,
such as “Lori”, “Don’t Get Me Wrong”,
and “Green Leaves”. You can also request Joe doing
his originals on WVUD Roots program from Mon-Fri 8:30- 11:30
am and asking for a song from the Green Leaves Joe Sadot CD.
Vic went on to form the Crazy Planet Band,, an original folk/rock/blues
act with his youngest brother, Rob Sadot on electric guitar.
Their first professional show was at the Deer Park Tavern in
Newark, Delaware in 1979. They released Good Time Delaware,
a 45, in 1985, and they released an LP titled Ride the Wind
in 1988.
In 1992 Vic traveled throughout southwestern Louisiana to explore
the French music of that area. He came back so enthusiastic
about the music that he changed Crazy Planet into a Cajun/Zydeco
band with a French name of the same meaning, “Planète
Folle”. In 1997 they released a well received 16 song
CD called Comin’ Home. There are original and traditional
songs from all of these projects that work well into Vic’s
solo show. All in all, this is a gentle and soulful tour de
force that spans a wide range of subjects and sentiments!

BAYOU
WEDDING BAND-
Call (302) 836-1617 for more information.
Vic
Sadot’s “Planète Folle” Band
Is now offering a special repertoire act for wedding receptions:
“The Bayou Wedding Band”
You may have seen “Planète Folle” in action,
or you may have heard about the band’s joyful presentation.
The band is well known for its original songs as well as for
its authentic renditions of Louisiana Cajun/Zydeco and New Orleans
R&B songs. In this “Bayou Wedding Band” line-up,
we feature Vic Sadot singing traditional Cajun wedding songs
such as “Let’s Go To Lafayette”, “Le
March des Mariés” and “Parlez Nous-à-Boire”.
For your wedding day, you may want a band that can also accommodate
guests of all ages with some wedding classics and some popular
standards. Given sufficient advance time, we can work in this
material as the “Bayou Wedding Band” version of
“Planète Folle”.
In addition to the “sweet Cajun soul mixed with hot Zydeco
pepper” that has gained the band widespread recognition,
you can also have wedding classics like “Can’t Help
Falling in Love”, “Beyond the Sea”, and “Stand
By Me”. You may also want to engage the services of a
band that can get your guests to cut the rug on such Rock &
Roll favorites as “Mustang Sally”, “Sugar
Bee”, and “Rock Me Baby”.
Our master of piano accordion, Mike Reynolds, could bring such
instrumental wedding classics as “Tarantella”, “Sunrise,
Sunset”, and “Hava Nagila” to make your reception
an even more memorable occasion. Guitar man Monty Cullum sings
great versions of songs like “Brown Eyed Girl”,
Margaritaville”, and “Many Rivers to Cross”.
Legendary Nashville sessions drummer, Chris Sherlock, and the
enormously talented Sam Chic will have your guests moving to
their steady and irresistible rhythms.
Do
you want to hire the expanded band?
Planète
Folle Band tends to be a 5 piece band: Vic on lead vocals, Cajun
accordion or guitar or scrub board; Mike Reynolds on piano accordion,
guitar or scrub board; Monty Cullum on electric guitar; Sam
Chic on bass; and Chris Sherlock on drums.
Wedding
budgets tend to pay well enough to expand the band a little
or a lot. That gives us the opportunity to hire a saxophone,
fiddle, or scrub board player to the mix. We can only do this
BIG "Bayou Wedding Band" with sufficient advance time
and a contractual agreement. Such professional players book
themselves with other bands. So we need sufficient advance time
to secure their services. And if you
want the hottest band possible, then you may want to consider
how they add so much to the sound and atmosphere.
Wedding
bookings require a contract and a 50% deposit that will not
be refunded if the wedding is cancelled or the date is changed
and we are unavailable. We do this because we are reserving
that date exclusively for you, because of past experience with
verbal contracts, and because we may have to pass on other attractive
offers that might along.
